Safeguarding

The safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children underpins all the work of the Supporting People programme and is a core value upon which service delivery is based.

The Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board multi agency policy and procedures state:

“All individuals have a right to live free from abuse in accordance with the principles of respect, dignity, autonomy, privacy and equity”

The Supporting People programme supports this statement and requires providers of services to adhere to the principle.

All Safeguarding referrals made to Adult Social Care and Health or Children and Young People departments that involve Supporting People funded service users should also be reported to the Supporting People team.

Reporting a concern

neglect

is also a form of abuse - leaving someone without food, heating or refusing to take care of personal needs.

Who do I contact?

Vulnerable Adults

What do you mean by a vulnerable adult?

A vulnerable adult is a person who is or may be in need of extra support because they are elderly or may have a learning disability, physical disability, sensory impairment or mental health problem and who is or may be unable to take care of themselves or unable to protect themselves against harm.

If you are being abused, you don't have to put up with it.  Tell someone you trust or call 08449 80 80 80 and report what is happening to you.  Remember, if it's an emergency, dial 999.

If someone you know is being abused, or you have a concern that they may be, you should first make sure that they're safe if it's possible to do so.  You should then report your concern.  You can do this by calling Nottinghamshire County Council on 08449 80 80 80.

Remember, if it's an emergency, dial 999.

Children

If you are worried about the safety of a child you must contact:

Children and Young People's Department local office

Emergency duty team on tel: 0300 456 4546

Local police (in an emergency dial 999)

NSPCC helpline on tel: 0808 800 5000

When contacting Children's social care (previously Social Services) ask for the duty social worker for children.

If you are not sure whether a child is being abused you can discuss the circumstances with the Children and Young People's Department or someone else who works with children, such as a teacher, health visitor or the NSPCC.

All professionals who work with children have a responsibility to safeguard them and will know how to help.
